The School of Atmospheric Sciences (SAS), Chengdu University of Information Technology (CUIT), was founded in 1951, originating from Department of Meteorology (DoM), Chengdu Institute of Meteorology (CIM). SAS has a Provincial Key Laboratory of Plateau Atmosphere and Environment and a Provincial Key Discipline of Meteorology. SAS has two departments, the Department of Atmospheric Sciences and Department of Applied Meteorology. Currently, we have over 50 faculty and staff, including 46 academic teachers. We have also invited 27 renowned domestic and oversea experts to work as part-time tutor. The School offers a program of study leading to Bachelors (B.S.) and Masters (M.S.) degrees in Atmospheric Science. About 1772 undergraduate students are currently registered for BSc degrees involving meteorology, and 252 postgraduate students are registered for MSc degrees.

SAS offers 2 majors for undergraduate students: Atmospheric Science and Applied Meteorology. The teaching goal of Atmospheric Science major is to enable students to have good scientific literacy and solid fundamental knowledge and practical skills of atmospheric science, so that they can engage in research, teaching and managing in the area such as meteorology, climatology, atmospheric physics, atmospheric environment, atmospheric sounding, applied meteorology and other meteorology-related careers.
