The School of Applied Mathematics was developed from the Department of Basic Education of Chengdu Institute of Meteorology. It had experienced from Department of Basic Science, Department of Computational Science, Department of Mathematic and Information Science. There are Basic Mathematic and Applied Mathematics for master degree, Information and Computational Sciences and Pure and Applied Mathematics for Bachelor Degree.

The School of Applied Mathematics has 68 faculty members, including 10 professors, 26 vice professors, 17 master supervisors, 23 with doctor's degree. Prof. Zhirang Zhang is Academic and Technology leaders and Distinguished Teacher of Sichuan Province with special government allowances of the State Council.

The program is beyond the model of traditional science. It is gradually based on the mathematic disciplines, using computer technology as a tool to satisfies the needs of society. The professional practice and employment station provides practice platforms for students in cooperation between enterprises and college. And there are four fields for undergraduates: Algorithm Analysis and Software Development; Data Analysis and Mining; Network Information Security; Mathematical Models and Applications.
