Professor Sun Huifang, Fellow of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and Institute of Mitsubishi Electric in America, was invited to CUIT to give an academic lecture entitled Point Cloud Compression. The lecture was held in the No.9 Conference Room, Administrative Building, some postgraduate and undergraduate students of the Computer Sciences College listened to this lecture.

Professor Sun introduced the basic concept and application of Point Cloud Compression, and vividly illustrated the application of Point Cloud Compression in manufacturing industry, medical image and so on with examples of measurement of dynamic maps. Furthermore，Professor Sun explained the basic requirements, fundamental algorithm, objective evaluation index and subjective test methods of Point Cloud Compression to students.

After the lecture, Professor Sun had a heated discussion with students, and patiently answered a series of questions. He said that Point Cloud Compression is a relatively new direction and hoped those interested students could actively participate in the study.
