The School of Foreign Languages, founded in 1999, was developed from the teaching and research section of College English of Chengdu Institute of Meteorology. In 2000, the English major was established to enroll the first English major undergraduates with 348 students.

The School is formed by faculty with distinguished academic expertise, sound structure and excellent competency. It has 91 teachers and staffs including 81 full-time teachers and 10 administrative staffs. It also has 8 Multi-media classrooms for English majors and 38 for non-English majors, 12 English language labs, 2 broadcasting systems, 2 independent learning centers and 1 reading room with more than 6,000 books and 200 sets of audio-visual materials. All the teachers have master degree or at least associate professor’s title. Several of them have won prizes respectively in national foreign language teaching contests.

The school is also responsible for college English courses for non-English majors and graduates in CUIT. The curriculum consists of 3 categories: Accompanied by corresponding reform in course contents and teaching methods, the curriculum aims to improve the students’ active learning, critical thinking, teamwork and communicative abilities.
