Dr Shen Wenwei, from the department of Applied Social Sciences of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, was invited to deliver an academic lecture entitled Social Work and Practice Research. The lecture was held in the conference room of the No.1 Teaching Building of Long Quan Campus.
Over 100 undergraduates and graduates of Culture and Arts College who majored in Social work attended the event. The lecture was chaired by Chen Huiquan, Director of Social Work Community Development Institute in Culture and Arts College.
Dr Shen Wenwei pointed out that Social Work needs to establish and optimize its own theoretical system constantly as well as develop the practical skills. While the process of practice research, in other words, keeping record during the service interventions. Through Practice Research on Social Work, service interventions can develop in different ways so that it can be applied to the local culture, as well as enrich and develop the knowledge of Social Work.
He mentioned that not only researchers should participate in practice research, but also the practitioners, the service users, etc. are included. It’s hoped that students can improve the current services and then develop new ones by practicing research as practitioners in future.
